- Abstract
- The article reviews the problem of the influence of structural factors of the spark gap sharpener on the physical processes which take place within its case and determines its basic electrical parameters: time of switching, dynamic breakdown voltage. It is found that the pulse corona discharge on the inner surface of the insulator which had preceded to the breakdown of the main discharge gap when a high-voltage pulse is given to the electrodes of the spark gap, stabilizes the discharge development in it, and the selection of the geometric dimensions of the anode-to-cathode distance S, and the length of the generatrix of the insulator h and pressure of the filling gas p, provided that there is approximate equality of the breakdown voltage of the discharge gap and the slide breakdown voltage on the inner surface of the insulator, guarantees optimal parameters for a given dynamic breakdown voltage, that is Udbv ≈ Usbv.
